VZ CV - Curriculum Vitae 2021 Douro Branco/White

The "White Monument" – A Crystalline Expression of Ancient Field Blends
In March 2026, the 2021 CV Branco is being recognized as a benchmark for the "New Douro" white wine movement. While the Douro was historically famous only for Port, wines like the CV Branco prove that the region’s high-altitude, north-facing old vines can produce white wines with the structure of a Grand Cru Burgundy and the mineral "shiver" of a top-tier German Riesling.
The 2021 vintage was particularly kind to white wines in the Douro. The cooler-than-average growing season allowed the grapes to retain a searing, vibrant acidity and delicate floral aromatics that are often lost in hotter years. This is a wine defined by "tension" rather than weight.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
The 2021 is currently in a state of "nervous elegance." It is incredibly precise, with a mineral core that feels like liquid stone.
-
The Nose: Complex and Stony. It opens with a sophisticated bouquet of white peach, lemon peel, and ginger. As it breathes, the 9 months of French oak aging reveal themselves through subtle notes of toasted brioche, vanilla bean, and a hint of white pepper, all wrapped in a distinct flinty/smoky minerality.
-
The Palate: High-Tension and Vertical. The entry is bone-dry and "electric." You’ll find concentrated flavors of green apple and grapefruit, supported by a creamy, waxy texture from the lees stirring (bâtonnage). The acidity is prominent but perfectly integrated, driving the wine forward with incredible energy.
-
The Finish: Eternal and Saline. It concludes with a long, savory finish marked by a refreshing saltiness and a lingering trail of citrus zest and crushed minerals.

Pro Tip
Treat this wine like a fine Meursault or Montrachet. Do not serve it ice cold. If it is too cold, the complex oak integration and old-vine "waxiness" will be muted. Serve at 10°C–12°C.
The "Glassware" Tip: Use a large-bowled Chardonnay glass rather than a narrow flute. The extra surface area allows the smoky, flinty aromatics to expand.
The Pairing: This is a serious "food wine." It is an incredible partner for Grilled Turbot, Lobster with drawn butter, or Roast Chicken with morels. In Finland, it is a world-class match for Fried Vendace (Muikku) or Arctic Char, where the wine's saline minerality mirrors the freshness of the fish.
