VZ Douro Branco is made from rare old vines in the Douro Valley, and its small production makes it a unique white wine.
The name VZ refers directly to the Van Zeller family and their long-standing commitment to the wine culture of the Douro Valley. The wines in the series are made exclusively from selected vineyards where the vines are old and grow on steep slopes and in conditions that produce small but highly aromatic grapes.
VZ Douro Branco is produced from the region’s traditional white grape varieties, such as Rabigato, Viosinho and Gouveio. These varieties naturally yield fresh and aromatic wines that combine citrus notes, floral character and the typical minerality of the Douro.
VZ Douro Branco ages on its lees, which gives the wine a creamy, full-bodied mouthfeel and deepens its aromas. A gentle bâtonnage adds subtle nuttiness and a long, saline finish. Most of the wine matures in stainless steel tanks to preserve the varieties’ freshness and bright citrus notes, while a small portion spends time in neutral oak barrels. The barrel ageing does not impart strong oak flavours, but it provides structure, broader texture and a hint of spice. The result is a multidimensional, mineral-driven and elegant white wine where the tension of the Douro Valley and the winemaking expertise of the Van Zeller family come together in harmonious balance.
