The goal of the Van Zeller producer is to craft a wine that is both approachable and a clear reflection of the Douro Valley’s identity.
The story of the VZ producer begins on the steep slopes of the Douro Valley, where winemaking has been part of family life for centuries. The name VZ was born from the producer’s desire to distill the essence of their work into two letters: vinho and zona, wine and place. The idea was simple yet ambitious to create a wine that not only comes from Douro, but tells the story of Douro.
The Douro Valley is characterized by steep slopes and rocky soils, with significant temperature variations. These conditions produce grapes that develop both ripe concentration and natural acidity.
VZ Douro Tinto is crafted from hand‑picked grapes grown on the steep, rocky terraces of the Douro Valley, where old vines produce intensely aromatic fruit. The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks at carefully controlled temperatures to preserve its fresh fruit character and the purity of each grape variety. A portion matures in French oak, adding subtle spice and a softer texture, while stainless‑steel ageing enhances the wine’s natural freshness.
