While the estate’s Chianti Classicos celebrate the purity of Sangiovese, Trasgaia is the "Avant-Garde" of the portfolio—a bold, international-style red that marries the elegance of Tuscany with the structural power of Bordeaux.

The 2019 vintage in Tuscany is being hailed as "exceptional," characterized by an ideal growing season that provided the concentration of the hot 2017 but with the balance and "shimmering" acidity of a cooler year. This has resulted in a Trasgaia that is particularly aromatic and built for long-term cellaring.


🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)

The 2019 is currently transitioning from its primary "fruit bomb" phase into a more sophisticated, complex secondary profile.

  • The Nose: Expansive and Sophisticated. It opens with a dense core of sour cherry in syrup, blackcurrant, and lemon jelly. As it breathes, the influence of the 24-month barrel aging becomes clear: notes of toasted Arabica coffee, gianduja chocolate, vanilla, and nutmeg emerge, followed by a cool balsamic whiff of eucalyptus.

  • The Palate: Powerful and Enveloping. The entry is muscular and warm. You’ll find layers of blackberry and licorice, supported by completely integrated, silky tannins. Despite its 14.5% ABV, the wine maintains a "measured" and polite mouthfeel with a vibrant energy that keeps it from feeling heavy.

  • The Finish: Eternal and Spicy. It concludes with a long, persistent trail of black pepper, star anise, and currant, with a savory mineral grip typical of Castellina soils.

The Trasgaia is a "meditation wine." Because of its high Cabernet content and long oak aging, it must be decanted for 90 minutes to soften the structure and let the coffee and eucalyptus notes separate from the dark fruit. Serve at 16°C–18°C.

The Pairing: This is a wine for "noble" proteins. It is the ultimate partner for Wild Boar Stew (Cinghiale in Umido), Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or larded pheasant.
