The "Chilean First Growth" – A Masterclass in Precision from a Warm Vintage
In March 2026, the 2020 Seña has entered its prime drinking window. This iconic Bordeaux-style blend is the result of a historic joint venture between Eduardo Chadwick and the late Robert Mondavi. Grown under biodynamic principles in the Aconcagua Valley, the 2020 vintage is particularly celebrated for how the winemaking team managed a notably warm and dry year to produce a wine of immense power that remains "shimmering and elegant."
Winemaker Francisco Baettig famously harvested early—during the second week of March—to preserve the "tension and lift" that defines Seña's style.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
At six years old, the 2020 has begun to integrate its fine-grained tannins, transitioning from pure primary fruit into a more complex, savory profile.
-
The Nose: Intense and Layered. It opens with a sophisticated bouquet of blackcurrant, red cherries, and raspberries, immediately followed by floral notes of violets and lavender. As it breathes, the signature "Seña spice" appears: tobacco leaf, cedar, and a hint of white pepper and dill.
-
The Palate: Silky and Linear. Despite the warm vintage, the palate is fresh and juicy. It features a "weighty but graceful" core of dark plum and cocoa, chiseled by extremely fine, chalky tannins. There is a distinct mineral energy—often compared to crushed stone—that provides incredible structure.
-
The Finish: Long and Saline. It concludes with a persistent, savory finish featuring notes of dark chocolate, balsamic, and a touch of rosemary.

Pro Tip
The 2020 Seña is a "vertical" wine that benefits greatly from aeration. Decant for 60 to 90 minutes before serving. This allows the firm tannins to soften and the "Mediterranean" herbal notes (rosemary and dill) to harmonize with the black fruit. Serve at 16°C–17°C—slightly cooler than a typical room temperature—to emphasize its remarkable freshness.
Its structure and savory depth make it an incredible partner for premium grilled meats (Wagyu or Ribeye), herb-crusted lamb, or a wild mushroom tart.
