An elegant and age‑worthy South African Bordeaux blend where deep fruit and refined oak meet a velvety structure.
The wine is named after Baron Edmond de Rothschild, one of the most influential figures in the Bordeaux wine world. The Rupert & Rothschild estate was founded in 1997 when two iconic wine families the South African Rupert family and the French Rothschild family combined their expertise.
The slopes of Simonsberg offer exceptionally diverse microclimates, where the vines receive abundant sunlight along with cooling breezes from two oceans. This combination produces wines with both ripe fruit character and structural depth. The blend follows a classic Bordeaux style: Merlot 70%, Cabernet Franc 13%, Cabernet Sauvignon 12% and Malbec 5%.
Hand‑harvested grapes, extended skin contact and 18 months of ageing in French oak give the wine depth, a velvety structure and refined layers of aroma.
The wine’s full-bodied structure and refined oak make it suitable for long ageing, with a cellaring potential of at least 15 years. At the same time, it is a versatile food wine. Serve it with hearty meat dishes, mushroom-based dishes or well-aged cheeses.
