Quinta Vale D. Maria is one of the most respected family estates in the Douro Valley, renowned for its small-scale production and artisanal approach. Vinhas do Sabor refers to the Sabor River valley, where the grapes for this wine are grown.
The wine comes from Douro Superior, the hottest and driest part of the Douro Valley, ideal for producing ripe and concentrated red wines. The grapes are classic Douro varieties such as Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, known for creating deeply coloured and aromatic wines.
The harvest is carried out by hand to ensure precise selection, allowing only perfectly ripe grapes to enter the wine. Fermentation takes place in temperature‑controlled tanks. The wine is aged for 18–22 months in large French oak barrels, which contribute structure, spiciness and a refined toasted complexity.
This red wine from the Douro region shines brightest alongside rich meat and vegetable dishes. Grilled beef entrecôte or a spicy moussaka particularly highlight the wine’s structure and balanced tannins. In general, grilled meats pair beautifully with this wine, as do robust, aged cheeses such as Comté or Stilton.
