Quinta de Santiago -Vinho Verde Alvarinho e Loureiro 2023
Sis. ALV 25,5%
The "Atlantic Duo" – A Vibrant, Floral Symphony of the Minho
In March 2026, the 2023 "Santiago" Alvarinho & Loureiro is at its absolute peak of freshness. This wine is a quintessential "border blend" from the Monção e Melgaço sub-region of Vinho Verde, where the estate of Quinta de Santiago sits. While their 100% Alvarinho is about power and structure, this blend is designed for aromatic exuberance and effortless elegance.
The 2023 vintage in Northern Portugal was marked by a classic Atlantic cycle—plenty of winter rain followed by a temperate summer—resulting in grapes with high aromatic intensity and the "nervy" acidity that defines the region's best whites.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
This wine is currently showing a "shimmering" profile, where the two grape varieties play off each other in perfect harmony.
-
The Nose: Intensely Fragrant. The Loureiro component dominates the first impression with high-toned notes of bay leaf, wet slate, and white flowers (acacia and orange blossom). As it sits, the Alvarinho provides a fruitier core of fresh peach, lemon zest, and a hint of tropical passion fruit.
-
The Palate: Zesty and Precise. The entry is light and "dancing" on the tongue. You'll find a concentrated "citrus-snap" of green apple and lime, balanced by a slightly creamy mid-palate from short contact with the fine lees. It has a lower alcohol feel than the pure Alvarinho, making it incredibly refreshing.
-
The Finish: Clean and Saline. It concludes with a signature Atlantic saltiness and a lingering herbal freshness that keeps the palate feeling "washed" and ready for another sip.

Pro Tip
This blend is the ultimate "aperitif" wine, but it has enough mineral backbone to handle food. Because of the Loureiro’s delicate floral and herbal notes, serve it well-chilled (8°C–10°C). Using a standard white wine glass is better than a flute, as it allows the "bay leaf" and "citrus" aromatics to mingle.
It is a world-class partner for Sushi and Sashimi, Ceviche, Fresh Goat Cheese, or Grilled Sardines. The herbal edge of the Loureiro makes it particularly successful with dishes featuring cilantro, mint, or lime.
