Quinta de Santiago - Vinho Verde Alvarinho 2022

The "Atlantic Soul" – A Pure, Crystalline Expression of Monção e Melgaço
In March 2026, the 2022 Quinta de Santiago Alvarinho is in a beautiful spot. While many Vinho Verdes are meant for immediate consumption, the high-quality Alvarinho from the Monção e Melgaço sub-region—and specifically from this family-run boutique estate—possesses a structure that rewards 3–5 years of bottle age. The 2022 vintage was characterized by a warm growing season that yielded fruit with excellent concentration, balanced by the cooling Atlantic influence that keeps the acidity "electric."
This wine is the "lifeblood" of the estate, produced from vines grown in clay soils with rolled pebbles along the banks of the Minho River.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
After four years, the wine has shed its primary "green" edges and developed a more sophisticated, oily texture typical of aged Alvarinho.
-
The Nose: Elegant and Floral. It opens with a vivid bouquet of orange blossom and jasmine, followed by lychee and white peach. There is a distinct "stony" mineral undercurrent and a subtle hint of menthol/balsamic freshness that keeps the aromatics lifted.
-
The Palate: Full-Bodied and Tense. Unlike lighter Vinho Verdes, this is a serious white with significant weight and persistence. You'll find flavors of lemon curd, apricot, and grapefruit, all driven by a "vertical" acidity and a savory, saline minerality.
-
The Finish: Long and Zesty. It concludes with a refreshing "snap" of citrus pith and wet stones, leaving the palate feeling clean and energized.

Pro Tip
This Alvarinho is highly gastronomic and behaves more like a Chablis or a dry Riesling than a simple "poolside" white. To appreciate its complexity, do not serve it ice-cold. Aim for 10°C–12°C—this slightly warmer temperature allows the tropical lychee and floral notes to "bloom." Use a standard white wine glass rather than a narrow flute to let the aromatic profile expand.
Its intense acidity and oily body make it the ultimate partner for Oysters, Grilled Sea Bass, Garlic Prawns, or even Spicy Asian Cuisine (like Thai Green Curry), where the wine's weight can stand up to the heat.
