The "Atlantic Red" – A Fragrant, High-Acid Rebellion

In March 2026, the 2022 SOU Dissidente Tinto is recognized as a masterclass in the "New Minho" red style. This collaboration between Joana Santiago and Nuno Mira do Ó continues its mission to prove that Northern Portugal can produce world-class red wines that prioritize freshness over extraction. The 2022 vintage was slightly warmer than the 2021, providing a bit more "mid-palate flesh" and fruit density while maintaining the project's signature "electric" acidity.

This wine is a "dissident" because it rejects the modern obsession with dark, heavy reds, instead embracing the light-colored, indigenous grapes that once dominated this landscape.

🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)

Now four years from the harvest, the 2022 Dissidente has integrated its whole-cluster spice with its bright red fruit core.

  • The Nose: Wild and Botanical. It leads with a "crunchy" bouquet of red currants, sour cherries, and pomegranate. As it opens, the 2022 shows its unique complexity: notes of white pepper, dried rose petals, and a distinct "damp stone" minerality.

  • The Palate: Vibrant and "Nervy." The entry is weightless and fluid. You’ll find a concentrated "snap" of cranberry and wild strawberry fruit, supported by fine, silky tannins and a vertical acidity that makes the wine feel "thirst-quenching."

  • The Finish: Savory and Long. It concludes with a persistent, herbal lift—think laurel and wild thyme—and a saline finish that is rare in red wines.

Pro Tip

The Dissidente Tinto is a "bridge" wine—it has the soul of a red but the structure of a white. To fully appreciate its aromatic "bloom," decant for 20 minutes to let the whole-cluster peppery notes integrate. Most importantly, serve it chilled (12°C–14°C). At room temperature, the delicate red fruit can become "muddled," but when cool, the acidity and spice become laser-focused.

Its high acidity and light body make it a perfect partner for roasted fatty fish (like Salmon or Char), Charcuterie boards, or Duck Confit. It is also one of the few reds that pairs beautifully with tomato-based pasta dishes.
