Quinta de Santiago SOU 2021 dissidente TINTO
Sis. ALV 25,5%
The "Rock 'n' Roll" Rebel – A Defiant Revival of Forgotten Red Roots
In March 2026, the 2021 SOU Dissidente Tinto is celebrated as a "liquid manifesto" for the Northern Minho. This wine is a high-profile collaboration between Joana Santiago (Quinta de Santiago) and winemaker Nuno Mira do Ó. The name SOU ("I Am") represents their joint identity (Santiago + O + U—the rock 'n' roll hand gesture). While the region is now synonymous with white Alvarinho, it was historically dominated by red vines. The Dissidente (Dissident) specifically seeks to rescue these forgotten, low-color, high-acid varieties.
The 2021 vintage was cooler and rainier than average, pushing this wine into an even more "dissident," lighter, and more relaxed profile that feels like a natural reflection of the Atlantic climate.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
Currently at five years of age, the 2021 Dissidente is showing a "shimmering" translucency and a wild, herbal complexity.
-
The Nose: Fresh and Balsamic. It leads with a "crunchy" bouquet of macerated wild berries (red currant, raspberry) and pomegranate. As it breathes, sophisticated layers of aromatic herbs, forest floor, and earthy mushroom emerge, with a distinct balsamic lift.
-
The Palate: Vibrant and Weightless. The entry is electric. Despite being a red, it has the sharp, sluicing acidity of a white wine. It is light-bodied with very soft, almost invisible tannins. It feels "thirst-quenching" and pure, focusing on red fruit energy rather than oak or extraction.
-
The Finish: Tense and Persistent. It concludes with a long, clean finish of sweet spice and minerals, leaving the palate refreshed.

Pro Tip
The Dissidente is a "Red Vinho Verde" in spirit, which means it behaves differently than a typical red. It must be served with a light chill (12°C–14°C) to highlight its racy acidity and balsamic aromatics. Because of its lightness and high tension, it is an incredibly versatile food partner—it can actually handle seafood and sushi as well as poultry or pasta with fresh tomatoes. It is the ultimate "red for white wine lovers."
