The "Grandma’s Cherry Compote" – A Light, Soulful Red for the Modern Table

In March 2026, the 2022 Frankovka from Vinařství Plenér is a celebrated example of Dominika Černohorská's philosophy that Moravian red wines should be "light, fresh, and exceptionally drinkable." Often compared to the refreshing style of wines from our grandfathers' cellars, this 100% Blaufränkisch (Frankovka) is intentionally crafted to avoid the heavy, over-extracted style sometimes found in Central European reds.

The 2022 vintage was particularly warm and dry, but by picking the grapes slightly earlier, Plenér preserved a vivid, crunchy acidity that makes this wine feel "effortlessly light."

🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)

Currently four years from the harvest, the 2022 Frankovka has settled into a juicy, fruit-forward profile with just enough structural "edge" to keep it interesting.

  • The Nose: Pure and Nostalgic. It leads with a bright, clean aroma of cherry compote and fresh raspberries. As it breathes, subtle notes of blackberry, sweet spices, and a hint of forest floor emerge, giving it a classic Moravian character.

  • The Palate: Juicy and Lean. The entry is "snap-fresh," dominated by tart red cherry and cranberry flavors. It has a low alcohol feel (12%) and a light-to-medium body. The tannins are very delicate—Dominika often compares the sensation to "accidentally biting into a cherry pit"—providing a fine, grainy texture without any bitterness.

  • The Finish: Clean and Spicy. It concludes with a refreshing, peppery finish and a signature limestone salinity that reflects its Pálava origin.

Pro Tip

This is the ultimate "gastronomic" red. Because of its high acidity and light tannins, it is one of the few red wines that actually benefits from being served slightly chilled (12°C–14°C). Chilling it emphasizes the "crunchy" cherry fruit and makes it incredibly refreshing. It is a perfect partner for roasted poultry (duck or goose), traditional Czech goulash, or grilled vegetables with herbs.
