The "Orbital" Welschriesling – A Pure, Unfiltered Expression of Limestone

In March 2026, the 2019 Eggstra remains one of the most avant-garde and sought-after "natural" labels from Dominika Černohorská at Vinařství Plenér. The name is a play on its unique maturation: the wine was fermented and aged from start to finish in a wooden egg-shaped vessel. The lack of corners in the vessel allows for a continuous, gentle circulation of the wine and lees during fermentation, resulting in a texture that is remarkably harmonious and fluid.

For this specific project, Dominika chose Welschriesling (Ryzlink vlašský), the grape that most authentically reflects the white limestone soils of the Pálava hills.

🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)

The 2019 vintage was a concentrated year, and after several years in the bottle, this unfiltered wine has developed a deep, "golden-hazy" character with significant savory weight.

  • The Nose: Delicate and Aromatic. It leads with high-toned citrus notes, chiefly grapefruit and lime, followed by a distinct herbal and floral lift (acacia and chamomile). As it sits in the glass, a hint of acacia honey and subtle oak spice begins to emerge.

  • The Palate: Structured and "Tannic." Because it is bottled unfined and unfiltered with zero added sulfites, it possesses a unique "grip" on the tongue. You'll find flavors of sour apple, kiwi, and yellow plum, balanced by a vibrant acidity and the signature Pálava salinity.

  • The Finish: Persistent and Savory. It leaves a long, refreshing trail of minerals and wild herbs, with a slight, pleasant bitterness that adds to its gastronomic appeal.

Pro Tip

Eggstra is a "living" wine. Due to its unfiltered nature, you will see a fine sediment at the bottom of the bottle. You can either let it settle for a clear pour or gently tilt the bottle before opening to integrate the sediment for a richer, creamier texture. Serve at 10°C–12°C—slightly warmer than a typical white—to let the complex aromatics from the wooden egg expand. It is an exceptional partner for poultry dishes, roasted root vegetables, or aged goat cheese.
