François Mikulski – Meursault 1er Cru Charmes "Vieilles Vignes 1913" (2023)

The "Grand Cru" of the Domaine – A Century of Concentrated Terroir

In March 2026, the 2023 "Vieilles Vignes 1913" stands as the absolute pinnacle of the Mikulski cellar. This is a "collector's cuvée" in the truest sense, produced from a tiny 0.18-hectare plot of centenarian vines planted by François’s grandfather over 110 years ago. While the standard Charmes 1er Cru is powerful, the Vigne de 1913 moves into a different dimension of density, often compared by critics to a Montrachet in terms of its sheer scale and "abyssal" depth.

The 2023 vintage allowed these ancient vines to thrive, producing a wine that balances a massive, "cast-iron" structural core with a surprising, youthful energy.

🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)

The 2023 expression is a "brute with a tender heart," requiring time and patience to reveal its full, sophisticated spectrum.

  • The Nose: Profound and Insular. Initially discreet, it slowly unfurls layers of acacia flowers, mimosa honey, and fresh mint. Beneath the fruit lies a complex "savory-sweet" profile: almond paste, vanilla custard, and a hint of exotic saffron.

  • The Palate: Colossal and Layered. The mouthfeel is "monstrous" in its volume—a dense, oily texture of pear and peach coulis blended with walnut and sesame oils. It feels structured, almost "metallic" (lead and flint), reflecting the roots' deep plunge into the bedrock.

  • The Finish: Interminable. It resonates long after the sip, moving from candied citrus (kumquat and orange peel) to a deep, vibrating mineral hum that persists for minutes.

Pro Tip

This is not a bottle to be rushed. Because of its phenomenal density, do not touch a single bottle for at least 5 to 7 years. If you must open it sooner, a 2-hour decant is mandatory to allow the "armour" of the wine to soften. Serve at 13°C–14°C (slightly warmer than a standard white) to let the full, oily complexity of the centenarian fruit express itself. It is a "meditation wine" that pairs best with the most luxurious dishes, such as Braised Turbot with White Truffle.
