Domaine Michel Clair Hautes‑Côtes de Beaune 2022 is an elegant and modern Burgundy Pinot Noir that captivates with its freshness.
The winery was established in its current form in 1985 and is deeply committed to biodynamic and sustainable viticulture. In 2001 the estate expanded when Michel inherited his uncle Louis Clair’s vineyard, and this merger created a domaine also known in France as Domaine de l'Abbaye de Santenay. A name referring to the historic monastery in the village of Santenay, near which the estate’s cellar and part of its vineyards are located.
Wines from Hautes‑Côtes de Beaune have been enjoyed at historically significant occasions, such as the coronation of the French king Philip II Augustus in 1180.
The wine is cultivated biodynamically and the grapes are hand‑harvested. Fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in temperature‑controlled stainless steel tanks. Part of the wine is aged for about ten months in French oak barrels and part in stainless steel, ensuring that the freshness, acidity, and purity of the Pinot Noir are preserved.
Thanks to its fresh and berry‑driven profile, the wine is delightful on its own but also serves as an excellent and versatile food wine. Recommended pairings include game birds such as quail and duck, lighter meats like pork, and French classics such as coq au vin. Among cheeses, the best matches are mild and creamy varieties like Brillat‑Savarin or the local Èpoisses.
