Pure Elegance of Beaujolais – Pink Granite, Silky Gamay, and Natural Energy
Based in Avenas, high in the hills above Beaujolais, Julien Sunier has established himself as one of the leading figures in the region's natural and low-intervention wine movement. Farming organically and biodynamically, he practices a gentle, cold whole-cluster infusion (semi-carbonic maceration) followed by aging in neutral, old Burgundian barrels.
His Fleurie comes from old vines rooted in the famous pink granite soils of the appellation (notably the Niagara and La Tonne lieu-dits). The 2024 vintage delivers an airy, incredibly digestible profile packed with floral freshness, vibrant red fruits, and a striking mineral core.
🍷 Tasting Profile (2026 Perspective)
-
The Nose: Airy, Floral, and Radiant. Opens with an alluring bouquet of fresh peony, violet, and crushed roses, wrapped around vivid aromas of wild raspberry, red cherry, and pomegranate, with subtle hints of white pepper and graphite minerality.
-
The Palate: Silky, Fluid, and Vibrant. The entry is supple and juicy. The tannins are ultra-fine, infused, and velvety. A bright, crystalline acidity carries the mid-palate with tension and finesse.
-
The Finish: Pure, Saline, and Refreshing. Long and clean, echoing notes of tart red berries, blood orange zest, and a stony, pink-granite mineral streak.

Pro Tip
Serve slightly chilled at 14–16°C.
-
The Classic Bistro Match: Magnificent with roast Bresse chicken, duck terrine, veal carpaccio, or seared salmon.
-
The Cheese & Charcuterie Match: Ideal alongside soft bloomy rind cheeses (Saint-Marcellin, Reblochon) or artisanal charcuterie.
-
The "Nordic" Match: Superb paired with Tartare of Venison/Roe Deer served with wild lingonberries, or Pan-seared Arctic Charr. Gamay's delicate tannin structure and bright berry acidity lift lean game meats and oily salmonids without crushing their natural delicate flavors.
