The Vibrant Counterpart to Serpico – Fresh Black Fruit, Wild Herbs, and Volcanic Energy
While the prestigious Serpico captures the immense, cellar-worthy power of ancient vines, Rubrato shows the brighter, more approachable side of Aglianico. Crafted by Feudi di San Gregorio from vineyards perched in the cool, high-altitude hills of Irpinia in Campania, Rubrato focuses on pure fruit energy, immediate freshness, and supple structure without losing the grape's signature volcanic character.
The 2022 vintage in Southern Italy delivered warm summer days balanced by cool autumn night breezes, allowing Aglianico to retain its lively natural acidity while reaching optimal phenolic ripeness.
🍷 Tasting Notes
The 2022 vintage is in a prime drinking window, delivering immediate charm alongside classic Southern Italian spice.
-
The Nose: Vibrant, Floral, and Dark-Fruited. Opens with expressive aromas of wild marasca cherry, fresh plum, and crushed blackberry, accented by delicate top notes of violet, dried thyme, and a hint of Mediterranean scrub (maquis).
-
The Palate: Medium-Bodied, Smooth, and Balanced. The entry is supple and juicy compared to more tannic Aglianicos. A concentrated core of red and black berries is supported by fine-grained, well-integrated tannins and a streak of stony mineral acidity that keeps the wine lifted.
-
The Finish: Clean, Savory, and Refreshing. Finishes dry with a persistent trail of black pepper, licorice, and dusty volcanic earth, encouraging another sip.

Pro Tip
Because Rubrato sees no oak aging, it relies entirely on its bright acidity and gentle tannins for structure, making it one of the most versatile red wines at the table.
-
The Bistro Match: Perfect alongside Neapolitan pizza (especially spicy salami or Margherita), pasta with sausage and ragù, or roasted pork loin.
-
The Cheese Pairing: Excellent with medium-aged cheeses like Provolone Piccante or Pecorino.
-
The "Nordic" Match: Serve slightly cellar-cooled at 15–17°C. It is a fantastic companion for Saautéed Reindeer (Poronkäristys) with mashed potatoes and lingonberries or a savory Meatball Bake. The wine's snappy cherry fruit cuts right through rich gravies, while its subtle earthiness pairs naturally with wild berries and game.
