Feudi di San Gregorio "Cutizzi" Greco di Tufo
The "Sulfurous Crusader" – A Volcanic Expression of Irpinia’s High Hills
In March 2026, Cutizzi remains the crown jewel of Feudi di San Gregorio’s "Selezioni" line. Sourced from the chalky, mineral-rich soils of Santa Paolina—one of the highest and most prestigious areas within the Greco di Tufo DOCG—this wine is famous for its "volcanic" personality. The vineyards sit near ancient sulfur mines, which imparts a unique, smoky minerality that sets it apart from more generic Italian whites.
The bottle itself is a piece of art, featuring a distinctive ribbed design by the legendary Massimo Vignelli, intended to represent the "waves" of the wine’s energy.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
The 2023 and 2024 vintages are currently the primary focuses in the market. While 2023 offers a broader, more "opulent" profile, the early 2024 releases are noted for their "laser-sharp" tension.
- The Nose: Intense and Balsamic. It opens with a sophisticated bouquet of green plum and "Mast'Antuono" pear (a heritage Campania variety). As it breathes, look for its signature balsamic notes of mint and sage, underpinned by a distinct flinty, smoky edge.
- The Palate: Textured and "Crystalline." The entry is powerful and vertical. It features a heavy "acid backbone" that balances a medium-to-full body. You’ll find flavors of lemon zest, underripe peach, and green apple, but the defining characteristic is the spicy minerality—some critics describe the sensation as "chewing on crystals."
- The Finish: Long and Saline. It concludes with a persistent, savory trail of almond and sea salt, leaving a clean, vibrating impression on the palate.

Pro Tip
Cutizzi is a "slow" wine that needs oxygen to shed its initial sulfurous reduction. Do not serve it straight from the fridge. Aim for 10°C–12°C—at this slightly warmer temperature, the "Mast'Antuono" pear and mint notes will fully emerge. It is a legendary partner for Buffalo Mozzarella (Mozzarella di Bufala), as the wine's high acidity cuts right through the cheese's creaminess. It also shines with raw seafood, Grilled Sea Bass, or a classic Pizza Margherita.
