Centuries-Old Pear Trees on Granite – A Perry That Drinks Like Fine Wine

Eric Bordelet is widely regarded as the reference producer of French cider and perry. A former head sommelier at Alain Passard’s L’Arpège in Paris, he returned in 1992 to his family estate, Château de Hauteville in Charchigné, where Mayenne meets Normandy’s Domfrontais. His orchards – around 30 apple and 20 pear varieties, many from very old trees on granite and schist – are farmed biodynamically, picked by hand and fermented slowly with natural yeasts. The result: ciders and perries with the depth and finesse of fine wine.

Poire Granit is Bordelet’s flagship perry. It comes from ancient perry-pear trees – some of them centuries old – scattered across the region and rooted deep in granite, which gives the wine its name and its striking minerality.

🍐 Tasting Notes

A rare chance to taste a mature Granit. At ten years old, the 2015 has moved from fresh pear into a deeper register: poached and dried pear, honey, beeswax and a savoury, earthy note, with the bubbles now soft and creamy and the granite minerality still running through the long finish.

🍽️ Food Pairing

Aged Comté, washed-rind cheeses, poultry with morels, scallops in beurre blanc, or simply on its own as a contemplative aperitif.
