Domaine Houblin‑Vernin produces a light and elegant Pinot Noir while honoring traditional winemaking.
Domaine Houblin‑Vernin is a family estate founded by two passionate growers, Jean‑Luc Houblin and Valentin Vernin, and has grown since the 1980s into one of the most recognized producers in the Coulanges‑la‑Vineuse area of Burgundy. Since 2022, Valentin Vernin has been running the estate on his own, preserving its traditions while continuing to enhance the quality of the wines.
The Coulanges‑la‑Vineuse area of Burgundy is known for its light wines, and its limestone‑ and clay‑based soils bring acidity and red‑berry character to the wines. The cool climate typical of northern Burgundy enhances the freshness, acidity, and aromatic expression of Pinot Noir.
The producer’s philosophy is to emphasize sustainable viticulture, aiming to protect both the soil and the surrounding environment. Harvesting is done by hand with great precision. Fermentation follows traditional methods to preserve the grape’s delicate, varietal aromas. The wine is aged partly in French oak barrels and partly in stainless steel tanks. The producer’s goal is to craft wines that retain the region’s distinctive character and the natural lightness of Pinot Noir.
The wine pairs beautifully with a wide range of dishes and also works well as an easy‑drinking social wine. Its tannins are soft and the structure is light. It is an excellent match for white meats, fish dishes, mushrooms, as well as charcuterie and cheeses.
