Domaine Gérard Seguin Chambolle-Musigny "Derrière le Four" 2024
The "Churchyard" Gem – Pure Finesse from the Village Heart
In March 2026, the 2024 Gérard Seguin "Derrière le Four" is a standout for those seeking the quintessential "feminine" elegance of Chambolle-Musigny. While the Seguin family is rooted in Gevrey-Chambertin, they acquired this small 0.28-hectare plot in 1996. The name literally means "Behind the Oven," referring to its location behind the old village bakery and the church in the very center of Chambolle.
The 2024 vintage in Chambolle was characterized by a "return to classicism." The vines here, aged between 40 and 50 years, benefited from the site's direct southern exposure and stony clay-limestone soil. This resulted in a wine that avoids the heavy, "solar" density of recent hot years, instead favoring the airy, floral complexity that made Chambolle famous.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
The 2024 is currently showing a "shimmering" clarity. It is less about power and all about delicate, layered aromatics.
-
The Nose: Ethereal and Floral. It opens with a high-toned perfume of violets and rose hips, followed by a burst of wild strawberries and raspberries. As it sits in the glass, a subtle "stony" minerality and a touch of warm spice from the 40% new oak emerge.
-
The Palate: Velvety and Refined. The entry is "lacy and weightless." You'll find a concentrated core of red cherry fruit supported by silky, fine-grained tannins. It has a beautiful "sapid" energy—meaning it makes the mouth water—without any harsh edges.
-
The Finish: Long and Graceful. It concludes with a persistent finish of red berries and chalky minerality, leaving a clean and elegant impression.

Pro Tip
This wine is often called a "Baby Musigny" because it sits just a stone's throw away from that legendary Grand Cru. It shares that same "iron fist in a velvet glove" DNA.
The Serving Tip: Serve at 14°C–15°C (slightly cooler than a Gevrey). Use the widest Burgundy glasses you have to allow the delicate floral aromatics to expand. Avoid decanting for more than 30 minutes, as its "ethereal" nature can be fragile.
The Pairing:
-
The "Classic" Match: Its silky texture is a perfect partner for Roasted Veal or Duck Breast with a raspberry reduction.
-
The Delicate Match: Excellent with Quail stuffed with grapes or a Mushroom Vol-au-vent.
-
Finnish Twist: A world-class pairing for Seared Whitefish (Siika) with a light butter and dill sauce. The wine's red fruit and high-toned acidity provide a beautiful "bright" contrast to the delicate fish.
