Dom. Gerard Seguin Bourgogne Rouge Cuvee Gerard 2024

The "Gevrey in Disguise" – Robust, Generous, and Terroir-Driven
In March 2026, the 2024 Bourgogne "Cuvée Gérard" stands as the quintessential introduction to the Seguin style. While technically a regional Bourgogne AOC, this wine is a "secret Gevrey" in all but name. The fruit is sourced exclusively from a 0.66-hectare plot called "Charreux" (formerly Chemin du Tacot), which is located within the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin itself, heading toward Brochon.
The 2024 vintage across the estate's lower-lying plots benefited from the deep, clay-rich soils of the "Charreux" site, which provided a steady water supply during the warm finish to the summer. This has resulted in a "Cuvée Gérard" that is notably robust and generous, offering a level of structure and "grip" that is rare for a basic Bourgogne Rouge.
🍷 Tasting Notes (2026 Perspective)
The 2024 is currently described as a "mini-powerhouse," showing more darkness and depth than the silkier Cuvée Chantal.
-
The Nose: Earthy and Fruity. It opens with a bold bouquet of dark cherries, damson plums, and wild raspberries. As it sits in the glass, it reveals the "Gevrey signature": hints of wet earth, woodsmoke, and a touch of raw meat/savory spice.
-
The Palate: Structured and Firm. The entry is "broad and confident." You’ll find a dense core of red and black fruits supported by well-defined, powdery tannins. It has a distinct "chewy" texture that speaks to the clay soils and the 30–40 year old vines.
-
The Finish: Persistent and Savory. It concludes with a long finish of baking spices and dark berry skins, leaving a very pronounced "taste of the terroir."

Pro Tip
This cuvée is specifically designed for those who want the "Gevrey experience"—that mix of dark fruit and earthy power—without the price tag of a Village or 1er Cru bottling.
The Serving Tip: Serve at 16°C. Because this wine is quite structured for its level, decant for 30 minutes. This will soften the tannins and help the "Charreux" clay-soil minerality integrate with the fruit.
The Pairing:
-
The "Classic" Match: Its robust nature makes it an ideal partner for Beef Bourguignon or Coq au Vin.
-
The Rustic Match: Spectacular with Oeufs en meurette (poached eggs in a red wine and bacon sauce).
-
Finnish Twist: Pair it with Sautéed Elk (Hirvikäristys). The wine’s dark cherry notes and savory "gamey" undertones are a perfect match for the iron-rich flavor of the elk.
