Bargylus is a bold masterpiece from the mountains of Syria: a rare growing environment, meticulous craftsmanship and a deep, multi‑layered flavour.
Domaine de Bargylus is one of the rarest wineries in the world: the only internationally acclaimed wine producer in Syria. The estate was founded by the Saadé brothers, who continue their family’s long tradition of trade and cultivation. The wine is often referred to as the ‘Bordeaux of the Middle East’ due to its structure and style.
The vineyards lie at 900–1000 metres in the Anti‑Lebanon mountains, close to the ancient Mount Bargylus from which the wine takes its name. The varieties Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot thrive exceptionally well in the mountain climate.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, preserving the fruit and varietal character. The wine then ages for 12–14 months in French oak barrels, adding spiciness, structure and depth.
Bargylus Rouge 2016 beautifully complements the deep flavours of lamb, game and slow‑cooked meat dishes. Its spiciness and structure shine especially with grilled meats. This mountain wine also pairs perfectly with the aromatic spices of Middle Eastern cuisine. Decanting is recommended but not essential. The wine has 1–15 years of ageing potential, during which its spice and fruit continue to evolve.
