The estate, owned by the Rothschild family, is renowned for its uncompromising quality and classic Médoc style.
Château Clarke was acquired by Baron Edmond de Rothschild in 1973, after which the estate was modernised and elevated to one of the most respected in Listrac‑Médoc. The estate is named after the Clarke family, who owned it in the 18th century.
Listrac‑Médoc is the highest‑elevation appellation in the Médoc. The area is known for its gravelly and clay‑rich soils, which produce firm, structured wines. Listrac is one of the smallest appellations in the Médoc, yet renowned for its long‑lived red wines. The 2006 vintage is crafted from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The grapes are hand‑harvested to achieve optimal balance. The wine ferments in stainless steel tanks and is then aged in French oak barrels. Extended bottle ageing has softened the tannins and deepened the wine’s aromatic complexity.
A versatile and elegantly matured Bordeaux that truly shines at the table. Its soft tannins and deep aromatic profile make it an ideal match for slow‑cooked meat stews, game dishes and grilled beef. The wine’s refined development also highlights the best qualities of a variety of cheeses. Decanting reveals its multi‑layered character and brings out the vintage’s mature elegance.
