The "Summer Red" – Brézé’s Juicy, Unfined Gem

The Vibe

If Clos Tue-Loup is the elegant diplomat, Clos Mazurique is the life of the party. While some of Arnaud Lambert’s red wines are built for the cellar, Clos Mazurique is crafted specifically for "immediate pleasure." It comes from a 3.7-hectare west-facing site on the southern side of the Hill of Brézé. In the cool 2021 vintage, this wine is famously "smashable"—a term used by critics to describe its high drinkability, light tannins, and vibrant energy.

The Nose

The 2021 is incredibly expressive and perfumed. It leads with a basket of fresh red currants, raspberries, and ripe cherries. Because it’s Cabernet Franc, you get those classic "varietal" notes: violet blossoms, dried herbs, and a subtle hint of green peppercorn. Unlike the bigger reds, there is no heavy earth or leather here—just pure, high-definition fruit.

The Taste

On the palate, Clos Mazurique 2021 is light-to-medium bodied and svelte. Arnaud Lambert uses a very gentle "infusion" style of winemaking (minimal pumping or stirring) to keep the tannins soft and fine-grained. You’ll taste crunchy red berries and pomegranate, backed by a zesty acidity that makes it feel very "energetic." It’s bottled unfined and unfiltered, which gives it a slightly "raw," authentic texture without feeling heavy.

Best Paired With:

  • The "Social" Match: Charcuterie boards, mild cheeses (like Brie), or a Margherita pizza.

  • The "Light" Choice: Beef carpaccio with parmesan, grilled salmon, or roast chicken.

  • The Summer Move: This is the ultimate "picnic red." It pairs beautifully with cold pasta salads or vegetable quiches.

Pro Tip: In 2026, the 2021 Mazurique is at its absolute peak. It isn't a wine meant for long-term aging; it's about that youthful "pop." Serve it slightly chilled (14–16°C) to emphasize the floral aromatics and the "crunchy" red fruit. It’s one of the few reds that actually tastes better with a 20-minute chill in the fridge before serving.
