André Jacquart 'Millesime Experience' Grand Cru 2013
The "Iron Fist in a Velvet Glove" – Pure Mesnil Majesty
The Vibe
If you’re popping a bottle of André Jacquart 2013, you are dealing with one of the most serious "Grower Champagnes" on the market. André Jacquart is famous for two things: Le Mesnil-sur-Oger (the most prestigious, "chalky" Grand Cru for Chardonnay) and oak. Unlike many modern houses that use steel to keep things fruity, Marie Doyard (the 5th generation) ferments 100% of this wine in old Burgundy barrels.
The 2013 vintage was a "classical" year in Champagne—cool and late-ripening—which resulted in wines with soaring acidity and incredible precision. In this bottle, that 2013 "nerviness" meets the creamy weight of oak, creating a Champagne that feels like a Grand Cru Meursault with bubbles.
The Nose
This is a high-intensity aromatic experience. Because of the 8+ years spent on the lees (yeast) and the barrel fermentation, the nose is a mix of toasted brioche, roasted hazelnuts, and browned butter. Underneath that richness, you get the laser-sharp Mesnil character: crushed chalk, lemon curd, and dried white flowers. There’s even a hint of exotic spice and saltiness that makes your mouth water before you've even taken a sip.
The Taste
On the palate, the 2013 is powerful, structural, and bone-dry (Extra Brut, usually around 4g/l dosage). The first thing you notice is the "mousse"—it’s incredibly fine and persistent. You’ll taste tart green apples, grapefruit, and a distinct ginger-like spice. The finish is where the "Grand Cru" pedigree shows up; it’s long, intensely mineral, and leaves a "salty-chalky" sensation that lingers for a full minute. It is a dense, "gastronomic" Champagne that demands your attention.

Best Paired With:
-
The High-End Match: Lobster Thermidor or seared scallops with a truffle-infused butter sauce.

-
The Savory Choice: Aged Comté cheese or a mushroom risotto.
Pro Tip
Because this wine was fermented in oak and aged for so long, it can be a bit "tight" right out of the fridge. Don’t serve it ice-cold. Aim for 10–12°C. Using a larger white wine glass (or a tulip-shaped glass) instead of a narrow flute will allow the complex brioche and nutty aromas to truly expand.
