Allram 'Ried Renner' Grüner Veltliner 1ÖTW

The "Spice Specialist" – A First Growth Legend

The Vibe

If the Strass is the village socialite and the Alte Reben is the wise elder, Ried Renner is the estate’s powerhouse athlete. This wine comes from a certified Erste Lage (First Growth) vineyard. Located at the foot of the famous Gaisberg hill, Ried Renner is characterized by deep, water-retaining loess soils mixed with stony erosion from the mountain above. This "soil cocktail" creates a wine that is famously much spicier and more muscular than its siblings. It is a wine that "takes its time" to wake up, but once it does, it has a lot to say.

The Nose

The nose is deep and "golden." You’ll find the signature Grüner white pepper, but here it’s more like crushed peppercorns and dried tobacco leaf. The fruit profile is exotic: ripe mango, honeyed apricots, and yellow plums. There is also a distinct floral-honey note and a whiff of wet stone and flint that points to its high-end terroir.

The Taste

On the palate, Ried Renner is dense, compact, and powerful. It has a serious "grip" and a broad, velvety texture that coats the mouth. You’ll taste mirabelle plums and juicy pears, balanced by a salty, lemon-zest acidity. The finish is where this wine really shines—it’s incredibly long and dominated by a savory, mineral "snap" and a lingering hint of cardamom. This is a big white wine that feels like it has the "bones" of a red.

Pro Tip

In 2026, the 2021 and 2022 vintages are currently the "stars" of the cellar. The 2021 is cooler and more chiseled, while the 2022 is riper and more exotic. Because these wines are fermented in large oak and have significant lees contact, they need air. Decant this for 30–45 minutes and serve at 10–12°C. Using a wide Burgundy-style glass will help those complex mango and tobacco aromas expand.
