Aldo Conterno Conca Tre Pile 2023

Aldo Conterno Conca Tre Pile 2022

Monforte d'Alba Pedigree – Deep Dark Fruit, High-Altitude Tension, and French Oak Structure

Produced by the benchmark Barolo estate Poderi Aldo Conterno in Bussia (Monforte d'Alba), "Conca Tre Pile" is widely considered one of Piedmont's premier Barbera bottlings. Sourced from 45- to 50-year-old vines in the vineyard area of the same name, this cuvée combines Barbera's natural high acidity and plush dark fruit with sophisticated French oak maturation ( barriques, 100% new wood, aged 18–20 months).

The 2023 vintage in Langhe produced wines with exceptional aromatic clarity, bright natural freshness, and intense fruit concentration. The older vines yield low quantities of hyper-concentrated berries, balancing Barbera's naturally low tannin profile with broad structural texture from oak aging.

🍷 Tasting Profile (2026 Perspective)

  • The Nose: Intense, Complex, and Broad. Opens with concentrated aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and dark plum preserve, seamlessly integrated with top notes of sweet vanilla bean, toasted cocoa, espresso roast, and subtle crushed violet.

  • The Palate: Full-Bodied, Unctuous, and Driven. A lush, velvety entry with a powerful core of dark fruit. A piercing, razor-sharp vein of natural Barbera acidity slices through the mid-palate richness, providing tension, lift, and exceptional balance.

  • The Finish: Long, Oak-Accented, and Mineral. Concludes on a long, lingering finish filled with notes of dark chocolate, spiced plum, lingering baking spice, and a fine stony undertone.

Pro Tip

Serve slightly cellar-cooled at 16–17°C. Decant 30–45 minutes prior to service to allow the French oak spices and intense dark berry fruit to open up fully.

  • The Classic Italian Match: Outstanding alongside Agnolotti del Plin with meat reduction, braised beef (Brasato al Barolo), osso buco, or truffle-infused tagliolini.

  • The Cheese Match: Ideal alongside aged Parmigiano-Reggiano, Castelmagno, or aged Comté.

  • The "Nordic" Match: Pair alongside Braised Bear or Elk Cheek (Haudutettu hirvenposki) served with a rich juniper-red wine reduction and wild lingonberries, or an Aged Peltola Blue Cheese plate. Barbera's signature high natural acidity cuts straight through rich, fatty meats and blue cheeses, while the wine's plush dark fruit lifts wild lingonberry and juniper aromatics effortlessly.
