A single‑vineyard Barolo where Bussia’s iconic terroir and Conterno’s traditional craftsmanship create a powerful, age‑worthy and multi‑layered wine.
Cicala is one of Aldo Conterno’s three renowned Bussia crus (Cicala, Colonnello, Romirasco). Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of Piedmont’s most respected family estates, known for its uncompromisingly classic Barolo style and long‑lived wines.
The wine comes from the Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, one of Barolo’s most prestigious and steepest vineyard sites. The soil is clay‑limestone, producing Nebbiolo wines that are structured, tannic and long‑lived.
Fermentation takes place in stainless‑steel tanks, with about 30 days of skin contact that adds depth and tannic structure. The wine ages for 26–28 months in large Slavonian oak casks, preserving Nebbiolo’s pure aromas and adding subtle spiciness.
A magnum bottle matures more slowly and harmoniously, making it a highly valued choice for celebrations and collectors. This wine pairs beautifully with slow‑cooked meat dishes such as ossobuco. Game, vegetable dishes and aged cheeses are also excellent matches. For truffle lovers, truffle pasta or truffle risotto is ideal. And if you simply want a delicious wine to share with friends, opening a fine Barolo is always a wonderful way to enjoy the evening.
